Sai Kung Maritime Pearl Workshop [Cantonese]
Do you remember the "Open an Oyster to Find a Pearl" activities held in various shopping malls across Hong Kong during your childhood? Simply by spending at a store in the mall and presenting your receipt, you could open an oyster and try your luck. If you wanted to take it a step further, you could pay an extra fee to have professionals turn your pearl into a beautiful piece of jewelry. This activity not only filled our childhoods with memories but also promoted the development of the pearl farming industry within Hong Kong's agriculture and fisheries sector.
We are delighted to witness many pearl farmers and related stakeholders receiving support from various funds, including the Innovation and Technology Bureau, the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (formerly known as Create Hong Kong), the Three-Runway System, the Environmental Protection Department, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, and the Education Bureau, all of which have injected new vitality into the development of Hong Kong's pearl industry.
Since December 31, 2013, we have resumed pearl farming in Hong Kong and, after several years of hard work, have been dedicated to promoting the city's pearl farming industry and marine workshops. Over these past ten-plus years, we have closely monitored global trends, gathered the latest information, and integrated this knowledge into the core of our workshops, ensuring that learning remains relevant to the needs of the modern world.
In this 2.5-hour workshop, our instructors will guide you into the mysteries of pearls, helping you understand the formation process of pearls and their close relationship with the ocean. This will be a wonderful journey that allows you to rediscover pearls and appreciate the unique charm of the Pearl of the Orient once again. 🌊🐚✨
